Attendance

Students are expected to attend class. Your participation in classroom discussions is an integral part of a university education. It is a chance for you to share your experience and observations with other students, and for you to learn from the experience and observations of the instructors and other students. The textbooks and assigned readings provide some of the information that you need, but classroom discussion extends it, and places it in context. We also occasionally cover material that is not in the readings or in the notes, for example, in response to questions or comments from the class.

It is understood that a student may need to miss class once or twice in a semester, for personal reasons, to attend a conference, or similar important reasons. If you expect to miss class more than twice in a semester, please alert the instructor prior to missing class.

The data from previous semesters indicates that students who attend class regularly do better than students that don't.
